Bittersweet Candies

Martin and I have cooperated with each other time and again since the seventies. So this was not only an exciting project but also a brotherly revival under completely different auspices than in the wild seventies. A movie in which people talk almost all the time doesn’t necessarily need music. Or does it? Even more so? We decided to go for it and find that the images, text and music complement each other well. For this album, I added some leadguitar to the almost entirely functional parts in favor of an emotionality that is missing in the mostly synthetic sounds. And although only a fraction of the recorded material was used, and in many places in the film only fragments are featured, these tracks will remain permanently linked to this special project for me.

Martin und ich haben immer mal wieder zusammengearbeitet. So war das nicht nur ein spannendes Filmprojekt sondern auch ein brüderliches Revival unter ganz anderen Vorzeichen als in den wilden Siebzigern. Ein Film, in dem fast durchgehend geredet wird, braucht nicht zwingend Musik. Oder doch? Erst recht? Wir haben uns dafür entschieden, und finden, dass sich Bild, Text und Musik gut ergänzen. Die fast durchwegs funktionalen Parts habe ich für dieses Album zugunsten einer in den meist synthetischen Klängen fehlenden Emotionalität mit Gitarrenparts ergänzt. Und obwohl nur ein Bruchteil des aufgenommenen Materials genutzt wurde, und an vielen Stellen im Film nur Fragmente zum Einsatz kommen, bleiben diese Tracks für mich dauerhaft mit diesem speziellen Projekt verbunden.
